Water and drain service
Toilet repair, clogged toilets and new toilet installation in NYC
A toilet that runs, rocks, leaks or will not flush is fixed the same day in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. If it is time for a new one, we supply and install it, and haul the old one away.
Toilet problems we fix
Most are one-visit repairs with parts from the truck.
Clogged toilet
Augered on the spot. If it clogs repeatedly, we pull it to check for a lodged object or a flush valve that has lost its force.
Running toilet
A worn flapper, a fill valve that will not shut off, or a cracked overflow tube. The most common cause of a high water bill in NYC.
Weak or incomplete flush
Clogged rim jets, a low tank level, a worn flush valve, or a toilet from the early low-flow era that was never good.
Leak at the base or rocking
A failed wax ring or a loose, corroded flange. Reset or replace the flange before the subfloor is damaged.
Tank-to-bowl leak or sweating tank
Gaskets and bolts replaced; an anti-sweat valve or insulated tank for condensation.
New toilet installation
Standard, comfort-height, elongated, dual-flush, wall-hung and ADA models. We match the rough-in and the building's water pressure.
Repair or replace?
Flappers, fill valves, flush valves and wax rings are inexpensive, and a sound porcelain toilet with new internals is as good as new. We repair when the bowl and tank are intact and the toilet flushes properly once the worn part is replaced.
We recommend replacement when the porcelain is cracked, when the toilet is a first-generation 1.6 gallon model from the 1990s that has never flushed well, when the flange and subfloor need work anyway, or when you want the water savings of a modern 1.28 gallon toilet, which in a multi-family building adds up quickly on the water bill.
Replacement takes about an hour and a half when the flange is sound. You get a written price for the toilet, installation and disposal before we start, and we carry common models so most replacements are same-day.
Is my toilet running?
- Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank
- Wait 15 minutes without flushing
- Color in the bowl means the flapper is leaking
- A toilet that refills on its own every few minutes is doing the same thing
- A running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a day
- Call; it is usually a 20-minute fix

Questions
How much does a plumber charge to replace a toilet?
It depends on the model you choose and the condition of the flange and floor. You get a written price for the toilet, installation and removal of the old one before we start. Standard replacements with a sound flange take about 90 minutes.
Can you fix a clogged toilet today?
Yes. Clogged toilets are cleared the same day in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan, seven days a week.
Why does my toilet keep running?
Usually a worn flapper that no longer seals, or a fill valve that does not shut off. Both are quick, inexpensive repairs, and fixing them is the fastest way to lower a high water bill.
What toilet do you recommend for a NYC apartment?
A modern 1.28 gallon elongated or comfort-height toilet from a mainstream manufacturer, matched to your rough-in and the building's pressure. For co-ops with low pressure on upper floors we recommend specific pressure-assist or gravity models that flush well at low pressure.
My toilet rocks. Is that serious?
Yes. A rocking toilet breaks the wax seal, and water and sewer gas escape at the base. Left alone it rots the subfloor. It is a quick repair if caught early.
